Expansion and upgrading for K-12 public school which also serves as a social hub for the community.
Design Solution:
Addition: View from Southwest. Dramatic skylit entrance serves as a luminous marquee announcing evening events in the cafetorium/classroom addition. The contemporary design uses traditional forms and materials to harmonize with the existing building.
Amphitheater: A terraced and landscaped Amphitheater creates an outdoor gathering place while at the same time reducing the impact of a twelve-foot high retaining wall at the Addition entry.
Main Entry Canopy: Facing the Main Town Square, a new Entrance Canopy uses traditional gable and columns to echo the forms of the houses encircling the park.While serving as a distinguished main entrance to the existing school building, it also provides sheltered waiting space for students and barrier- free accessibility to the venerable structure.
